Nastia Luikin

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Well folks, I cried and cried tears of joy when Nastia won the gold in the overall. People have said to me “well she didn’t show much emotion while she was on the podium, did she?”

What they do not understand is that she has been training herself to stay focused, perform, let go of all her fears, basically to be a warrior for years and years that is trained to kill the opponent. To be able to turn off that mechanism in an instant cannot be done. It will be a couple of months, she will be laying in bed just barely coming up from a good sleep, she will start to think of what she really did, and then it will hit her. All by herself she will be flooded in tears and overwhelmed with joy because she will now, finally, be able to enjoy the performance of a lifetime. That’s why she as reticent on the medal stand.
